Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2016 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr About the Author G. A. Henty was born in Trumpington, near Cambridge. He was a sickly child who had to spend long periods in bed. During his frequent illnesses he became an avid reader and developed a wide range of interests which he carried into adulthood. He attended Westminster School, London, and later Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he was a keen sportsman. He left the university early without completing his degree to volunteer for the Army Hospital Commissariat when the Crimean War began. He was sent to the Crimea and while there he witnessed the appalling conditions under which the British soldier had to fight. His letters home were filled with vivid descriptions of what he saw. His father was impressed by his letters and sent them to The Morning Advertiser newspaper which printed them. This initial writing success was a factor in Henty's later decision to accept the offer to become a special correspondent, the early name for journalists now better known as war correspondents. Shortly before resigning from the army as a captain in 1859 he married Elizabeth Finucane. The couple had four children. Elizabeth died in 1865 after a long illness and shortly after her death Henty began writing articles for the Standard newspaper. In 1866 the newspaper sent him as their special correspondent to report on the Austro-Italian War where he met Giuseppe Garibaldi. He went on to cover the 1868 British punitive expedition to Abyssinia, the Franco-Prussian War, the Ashanti War, the Carlist Rebellion in Spain and the Turco-Serbian War. He also witnessed the opening of the Suez Canal and travelled to Palestine, Russia and India. Henty was a strong supporter of the British Empire all his life; according to literary critic Kathryn Castle: "Henty...exemplified the ethos of the new imperialism, and glorified in its successes". Henty's ideas about politics were influenced by writers such as Sir Charles Dilke and Thomas Carlyle.
- Hidden Symbolism of Alchemy and the Occult Arts

Any person who does any unauthorized act in relation to this publication may be liable for criminal prosecution and civil claims for damages. Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2013 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr This thoughtful study, which antedates the work of Jung by a generation, represents the first serious attempt to correlate the methods of psychoanalysis with the literature of alchemy and of other great Western mystical and occult traditions. Dr. Silberer was a prominent member of the Vienna School whose untimely death prevented this, his major published work, from receiving the attention it clearly merited. Included is a wealth of material taken directly from alchemical and Rosicrucian sources. Symbolisms of salt, sulphur and mercury; of the prison, the abyss and the grave; of putrefaction and procreation; and of the sun, moon, and planets are carefully analyzed and explained. Passages from the works of Hermes Trismegistus, Flamel, Lacinius, Michael Meier, Paracelsus, and Boehme are cited both as important sources of alchemical doctrine and to substantiate the thesis that alchemy was a spiritual discipline of the highest order, comparable to the Yoga of the East. The entire inquiry is based on a parable from the pages of "Geheime Figuren der Rosenkreuzer," an eighteenth-century alchemical text. After a general exposition of dream and myth interpretation, Dr. Silberer proceeds to a psychoanalytic interpretation of the parable and then gives a detailed account of the traditions and practices of the alchemists, Rosicrucians, and Freemasons. Returning to the parable, he introduces the problem of dual interpretations; for while the psychoanalytic approach focuses on the depths of the impulsive life, the hermetic and mystical leads to the heights of spirituality. The heart of the book is an attempt to reconcile these divergent philosophies and a meditation on the relationship of introversion to mysticism.

- THE ELEMENTS OF NON-EUCLIDEAN GEOMETRY
JULIAN LOWELL COOLIDGE Ph.D. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS IN HARVARD UNIVERSITY FIRST PRESS: OXFORD AT THE CLARENDON PRESS, 1909 All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced or transmitted, in any form or by any means, without permission. Any person who does any unauthorized act in relation to this publication may be liable for criminal prosecution and civil claims for damages. Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2014 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr PERFACE The heroic age of non-euclidean geometry is passed. It is long since the days when Lobatchewsky timidly referred to his system as an ‘imaginary geometry’, and the new subject appeared as a dangerous lapse from the orthodox doctrine of Euclid. The attempt to prove the parallel axiom by means of the other usual assumptions is now seldom undertaken, and those who do undertake it, are considered in the class with circle-squarers and searchers for perpetual motion– sad by-products of the creative activity of modern science. In this, as in all other changes, there is subject both for rejoicing and regret. It is a satisfaction to a writer on non-euclidean geometry that he may proceed at once to his subject, without feeling any need to justify himself, or, at least, any more need than any other who adds to our supply of books. On the other hand, he will miss the stimulus that comes to one who feels that he is bringing out something entirely new and strange. The subject of non-euclidean geometry is, to the mathematician, quite as well established as any other branch of mathematical science; and, in fact, it may lay claim to a decidedly more solid basis than some branches, such as the theory of assemblages, or the analysis situs.
- Introduction to Infinitesimal Analysis Functions of One Real Variable

Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2013 ISBN:978-605-73158-0-9 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr PREFACE A course dealing with the fundamental theorems of infinitesimal calculus in a rigorous manner is now recognized as an essential part of the training of a mathematician. It appears in the curriculum of nearly every university, and is taken by students as “Advanced Calculus” in their last collegiate year, or as part of “Theory of Functions” in the first year of graduate work. This little volume is designed as a convenient reference book for such courses; the examples which may be considered necessary being supplied from other sources. The book may also be used as a basis for a rather short theoretical course on real functions, such as is now given from time to time in some of our universities. The general aim has been to obtain rigor of logic with a minimum of elaborate machin-ery. It is hoped that the systematic use of the Heine-Borel theorem has helped materially toward this end, since by means of this theorem it is possible to avoid almost entirely the sequential division or “pinching” process so common in discussions of this kind. The definition of a limit by means of the notion “value approached” has simplified the proofs of theorems, such as those giving necessary and suÿcient conditions for the existence of limits, and in general has largely decreased the number of "’s and ’s. The theory of limits is developed for multiple-valued functions, which gives certain advantages in the treatment of the definite integral. In each chapter the more abstract subjects and those which can be omitted on a first reading are placed in the concluding sections. The last chapter of the book is more advanced in character than the other chapters and is intended as an introduction to the study of a special subject. The index at the end of the book contains references to the pages where technical terms are first defined. When this work was undertaken there was no convenient source in English containing a rigorous and systematic treatment of the body of theorems usually included in even an elementary course on real functions, and it was necessary to refer to the French and German treatises. Since then one treatise, at least, has appeared in English on the Theory of Functions of Real Variables. Nevertheless it is hoped that the present volume, on account of its conciseness, will supply a real want. The authors are much indebted to Professor E. H. Moore of the University of Chicago for many helpful criticisms and suggestions; to Mr. E. B. Morrow of Princeton University for reading the manuscript and helping prepare the cuts; and to Professor G. A. Bliss of Princeton, who has suggested several desirable changes while reading the proof-sheets.

Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2013 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr Introduction.—In one of his discussions as to the ultimate bearing power of pile foundations, the late E. Sherman Gould, M. Am. Soc. C. E., stated that the theories of Goodrich had mathematically exhausted the subject, referring, of course, to a dynamic analysis. It is interesting, therefore, to note an entire departure from the usual procedure in a treatment proposed by Desmond* in which he studies a concrete pile purely by static methods.

Published by: GLOBAL ACADEMY, 2019 Language: English E-mail: globalyayinlari@gmail.com Website: https://www.globalacademy.com.tr THE RUGGED LANDSCAPE of Baronia on Sardinia sets the scene for this novel of crime, guilt and retribution. This novel presents the story of the Pintor sisters — from a family of noble landowners now in decline — their nephew Giacinto, and their servant Efix, who is trying to make up for a mysterious sin committed many years before. Around, below, and inside them the raging Mediterranean storms, the jagged mountains, the murmuring forests, and the gushing springs form a Greek chorus of witness to the tragic drama of this unforgiving land. Deledda tells her story with her characteristic love of the natural landscape and fascination with the folk culture of the island, with details about the famous religious festivals held in mountain encampments and the lore of the “dark beings who populate the Sardinian night, the fairies who live in rocks and caves, and the sprites with seven red caps who bother sleep.”
