Introduction

A new generation of designers in Portugal is developing design projects based on sustainability principles. These projects have an approach that aims to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, use renewable energy sources and increase social responsibility awareness. For example, some Portuguese designers design furniture or accessories using recycled materials. These designs help to take a step towards a more sustainable future by reducing environmental impact while at the same time helping to reduce waste. In addition, they develop design projects based on renewable energy sources. For example, they can design a lighting system that works by harnessing solar energy. This design aims to have an eco-friendly approach while saving energy. The new generation of designers in Portugal also cares about a sense of social responsibility. Therefore, their designs can be aimed at providing social benefit. For example, a designer might design a tool designed to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. In general, a new generation of designers in Portugal are developing projects that reduce environmental impact and provide social benefit based on sustainable design principles. This approach is seen as an important step towards a more sustainable future.
This chapter discusses some sustainable design products, taking into account the importance given to the product life cycle in Portugal in the context of developing products with national and environmentally friendly materials that have the agreed-upon value for material culture.
